1. The Nanus Rex, The Lambkins or The Lambkin Dwarf
This breed from the United States is called the Lambkins because its hair coat looks like a lamb fleece. It is a cross between the Selkirk Rex and the Munchkin. It has short legs with a dense curly coat. These cats have small size (5-9 pounds) and come in almost every color. They are playful, friendly and fairly interactive. They are pet-friendly and child-friendly. These cats have a large head and longer hind legs. They need regular grooming.
2. The Napoleon or The Minuet
The Minuet or the Napoleon is a domestic hybrid cat breed from the United States, developed by using the Munchkin and the Persian (or the Exotic Shorthair) breeds. It comes in both shorthair and longhair varieties. Despite having short legs like the Munchkin, cats of this breed can jump, run and play very easily. Cats of this breed have round face, eyes, strong bones and dense coat like the Persian group. They don’t have many health issues. They are excellent pets and have a unique look.
3. The Nebelung or The Longhaired Russian Blue
“Nebel” is a German word, which means “mist” or “fog”. This describes the silky blue semi-long coat of the Nebelung cat, with silvery hue at the tips, perfectly. The Nebelung is a medium-sized cat breed from the United States, with silky hair coat. Cats of this breed are very gentle, quiet, shy and playful. They are very adaptable and fit good with children and other pets. These cats have green to greenish-yellow eyes. They are generally very healthy.
4. The Neva Masquerade
Origination from Russia, the Neva Masquerade is actually the colorpoint version of the Siberian, with bright blue eyes. The Neva Masquerade cats are medium-large (11-18 pounds) and they have semi-longhair coat, that comes in different color varieties. The most commonly found color pattern is the Seal Point i.e. light base color with dark brown points. Some of them may have white paws. These cats are hypoallergenic. They have excellent pet qualities.
5. The New Zealand Shorthair or The Antipodean
This strong, medium-sized cat breed originates from Australia and New Zealand. The Antipodean, previously known as the New Zealand Shorthair, comes in more than 7 colors. It has large, triangular ears. Both short hair and long verities are there, with a large variety of eye colors. These cats are very strong, yet very gentle and friendly. They are very calm and don’t produce much noise. They are also very easy to train.
6. The Nile Valley Egyptian Cat
The Nile Valley Egyptian is one of the oldest existing domestic cats in the world, but it just got recognized by TICA in 2010. It is a natural breed, found in the Nile Valley, Egypt. It is found in all colors patterns, and it is divided into 3 categories i.e. Standard, Ago, and Lybica. Common colors are red, black, blue and white. These cats have excellent pet qualities. They are mostly found in shorthair coats. A longhair variety also exists, sometimes named as the Nile Valley Longhair.
7. The Norwegian Forest Cat, The Skogkatt, The Skaukatt, The Norsk Skogkatt, The Norsk Skaukatt or The Weegie
The Norwegian Forest cat, obviously from Norway, is the 14th on the list of most popular cats. It is a large (8-16 pounds), muscular breed with soft, silky, glossy and dense longhair coat. These cats are sweet, smart, playful, curious and quiet. Despite their large sizes, these cats look very cute. They come in a variety of beautiful colors. They are very good with other pets and children. The Norwegian is considered ancestor of the Maine Coon and perhaps of the long-haired Manx.
